As I walked into this year’s US Open at Flushing Meadows, I had to a double take. I saw an American Express sign that, in bold letters, read “RADIO.” I HAD to see what this was all about.
Turns out, American Express was handing out small earpieces that had a radio built in so that everyone could listen to Tim Ryan and the CBS broadcast crew call the matches at the Open. This was the coolest thing I have seen in a very long time. Not only could you listen to a “closed circuit” station, featuring the open, you could also take the earpiece with you to listen to AM/FM radio. What was so great about this was the fact that, in between matches or during a break, you could get updates and commentary that allowed you to really follow what was going on during the tournament.
BRAVO US Open and an even BIGGER BRAVO to American Express for using radio so effectively to help create an unbelievable experience during the US Open.

Thank you so much for writing about this on your blog. I work for American Express in product development and this year went to the US Open for the first time ever. I was very proud that my company was sponsoring and providing such a cool benefit. More to come
